INTRODUCTION-:
The Sports Authority of India (SAI), a successor organization
of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982.
It was set up as a Society registered of Societies Act, 1860 in
pursuance of the Resolution No. 1-1/83/SAI dated
25th January 1984 of the Department of Sports, Govt of
India.
It is also entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining
and utilizing, on the behalf of Ministry of Youth Affairs &
Sports

HISTORY-:
The Sports Authority of India originated with the committee
formed to host the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi. On 25
January 1984,
On 1 May 1987, the "Society for National Institute of Physical
Education and Sports" (SNIPES) was merged with SAI
the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports(NSNIS) at Patiala
and its allied centres at Bhopal, Bangalore, Kolkata and
Gandhinagar and the Lakshmibai National College of Physical
Education at Thiruvananthapuram also came under SAI.

ROLES-:
Sports Infrastructure Development: SAI is involved in the development
and maintenance of sports infrastructure across India.
Athlete Training and Coaching: SAI operates numerous training centers
and academies where athletes receive coaching, training, and other
support services.
Sports Science and Medicine: SAI invests in sports science and
medicine research to enhance the performance and well-being of athletes.
High-Performance Training Programs: SAI designs and implements
high-performance training programs for elite athletes competing at
national and international levels.

RESPONSDIBILITIES-:
 Sports Research and Innovation: SAI could take on a role in promoting sports
research and innovation to drive advancements in training methods, equipment,
and technology.
 Environmental Sustainability in Sports: SAI could incorporate environmental
sustainability principles into sports infrastructure development and event
management practices.
 Sports for Persons with Disabilities: SAI could prioritize the development of
sports programs and infrastructure for persons with disabilities, ensuring that they
have equal opportunities to participate and excel in sports.
 Sports Diplomacy and Soft Power: SAI could leverage sports as a tool for
diplomacy and soft power by hosting international sporting events, participating in
sports exchanges and partnerships with other countries, and showcasing India's
sporting achievements on the global stage.

Major contribution towards (PHE)-:
Curriculum Development: Designing physical education curricula
for schools and educational institutions.
Teacher Training: Providing training programs for physical
education teachers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Promotion of Active Lifestyles: Encouraging students to lead
active and healthy lifestyles through physical activity.
Incorporation of Sports: Integrating various sports and
recreational activities into the physical education curriculum.
Fitness Assessment: Conducting fitness assessments and tests to
monitor students' physical health and progress.
