ORANIZE BASIC DIRECTORY/FOLDER STRUCTURE AND FILES

What is folder/Attributes?

Folders- are a way of organizing your files so that it is easy to find them.
-is an area on the computer containing other folder and files.
-keep the computer well organized.
It is similar to a paper filing system. Ex
 Power Bills folder will include gas and
electricity bills and payments.
 A folder called Stationery would contain stationery orders, bills and catalogues.

What are File Attributes?
 File attributes are pieces of information associated with every file and directory
that includes additional data about the file itself or its contents.
 They can exist in only one of two states – Set or Cleared; similar to an on or off
state.
 They are used by the operating system and software applications to define file
system behaviour.

Attributes and Its descriptions
 Read-Only (R): Read-Only attribute will prevent software programs from saving changes to a file.

It is useful if you want to write protect a file. Note that a Read-Only file will not prevent it from
being deleted.
 Hidden (H): A file marked with the hidden attribute will be hidden from view under normal viewing
conditions.
 System (S): A file or directory used exclusively by the operating system which should not be altered or
deleted.
.  Directory (D): This attribute is tagged to folders or sub-folders to differentiate them from files.
 Archive (A): This bit is used by software applications that modify files as well as backup software as a
“communication link

Where we find attributes on file/folder
steps
1. right click on folder or file you want to change the attributes
2. Click the properties at bottom

To show/hide folder/file

Steps
1. Open the folder you want hide
2. Click the view button at the top of that window
3. Check the hidden items
4. Right click on the file/folder you want to hide
5. check the hide box
