Paper Presentation - Students can choose any one topic of their choice for presentation.(Teacher need to assign the topic to
student to come prepare for paper presentation )

Skills and Subskills: Decision making :Making connections and Focus: Discuss the concentration of pesticides in food
items and the impact of greenhouse gases in the environment .

1. Know about the level of pesticides in our food items.

Method : Collect some reports from newspapers , magazines and internet about pesticides
found in our ready made food items.

Write the report about pesticide levels in different food items (tabulate the data )

Find the answers to the following questions

● Is there a need of ban to be applied strictly on the readymade food items having pesticides ?
● Can you list out the food items which are banned by some other states .
● What could be the source of pesticides in any food item ?
● How can we detect them ?
● What happens to the body if we consume too much?
● What could be done to reduce the level of pesticides in food items ?

Find the answers to the following questions
1) Is there a need of ban to be applied strictly on the readymade food items having pesticides ?
A) Yes there is need of ban to be applied strictly on the readymade food items having pesticides.

2) Can you list out the food items which are banned by some other states.
A)

3)What could be the source of pesticides in any food item?

A)The source of pesticides in food items is from the pesticides that is sprayed during the growing of crops that produce food.

4)How can we detect them?

B) A method of rapid in-field detection of selected pesticides was introduced. UV-induced fingerprint spectroscopy was
exploited for pesticide analysis. The combination with MIPs for specific capture of desired analytes was used. Paper-based
analytical devices have been developed.

5)What happens to the body if we consume too much?

A)Some, such as the organophosphates and carbamates, affect the nervous system. Others may irritate the skin or eyes. Some
pesticides may be carcinogens. Others may affect the hormone or endocrine system in the body.
6) What could be done to reduce the level of pesticides in food items?
A)Consumers can further limit their intake of pesticide residues by peeling or washing fruit and vegetables, which also reduces other
foodborne hazards such as harmful bacteria.

7)How do we protect us without consuming such kind of food items?

A) By peeling or washing fruit and vegetables

Expected learning outcome:

Student will be able to suggest preventive measures to control usage of pesticides in food items and precautionary
measures to maintain ozone layer in the stratosphere.
