Content Management
●Content Download is Transfer content from a Data Loader to the IFE system.

●Content Crossload is Distribution of content between multiple system servers. The

Content Inventory List (CIL) specifies the content that is desired in each system server.

●Content Inventory List is ASCII Text Files that define the content for each server.
CIL determines content for each server & manages crossload.

●Active Content is Current Content being used.

●Scope is Range Of Use (time) of a piece of content.

Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Software Download

Software Downloading

A two phase process

● Phase I – new software is first

uploaded from the CD-ROM on the
PDL to the DSU-AM6-12

● Phase II – software is downloaded

from the DSU-AM6-12 to individual
system LRUs

● New or updated system software is

installed via Service Bulletin or
other authority. Always follow
procedures

Ch5
P26
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Configuration Database

● Configuration database gives all LRUs location and host name on

network.

● Every LRU holds the same database

● Specific to Airline / Aircraft type / Cabin layout

● Config database holds a listing of IP-addresses and “Hostname”

(example on SVDU: 172.17.32.84 = SVDU18F)

● Ensure power is not interrupted or that a PA announcement is not

made when performing any software loading procedures. It is
recommended that all system power switches and circuit breakers
as well as Attendant Handsets be placarded prior to commencing
software loading.

IP Sequencing

IP Sequencing
(Internet Protocol)

●Each LRU in the system has map data of all other LRUs

●Most LRUs are hard-wired or hard-coded with address

●SEBs require unique Ethernet (IP) address for

Location in the system.
Position in strings

●Only VCC SEB has hard-code Ethernet address

● During IP Sequencing, ADBs assign IP address to SEBs

Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

ADB 1

ADB 2

When IP Sequencing starts, the ADB’s command all the

SEB’s to set their output switches to the OFF (open) position.

The ADB can then communicate with only the first SEB on each string,
So it tells the SEB on string one that it is the first position on the string
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

The SEB checks the configuration data file to determine its seat group
location and its Ethernet address

The ADB then closes the first SEB switch, so it can communicate
with the second SEB and provide its location
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Then each in succession –

Until it reaches the end of the string.

The IP Sequence report then reports the amount of SEB it should have per
the config. data file to how many have reported (24 out of 24)
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

By being in series, one SEB failure could actually indicate that multiple
SEB’s failed

Results: 21 out of 24 Reporting

Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

1. Stuck closed switch (first SEB) while IP Sequencing will give both SEBs
the same address
2. Single SEB failure will result in the subsequent SEBs to not report
3. Fix first bad SEB in column, may hide others
4. Stuck open switch in SEB may prevent others from reporting

of SEBs actually reporting and indicate a Timeout. Press OK to

IP Sequencing (Typical)

The IP Sequence Report depicts in table format, each ADB and the Host
Name of SEBs in each of the ADB output columns. While the IP Sequence
Report uses the “Column” terminology, aircraft wiring diagrams will use the
ADB output connector (“J”) terminology
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Maintenance Procedures
IP Sequencing (Typical)
With a successful IP Sequence all SEBs will report back and each will be
green. SEBs that fail to report will be Red on the report. An Orange
indication indicates a duplicate address, that may be caused by a faulty SEB
IP switch permitting two SEBs to talk to the ADB simultaneously.

IP Sequence 3
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Maintenance Procedures
IP Sequence 3

IP Sequence Phase 1:
• Checks to ensure that all SEBs are correctly sequenced according to the
configuration database.
• If all are correct, a Phase 2 Sequence is not required and the IP Sequence Report
screen will appear.
• If during Phase, 1 it is determined that an SEB requires addressing, the Phase 2
screen will appear and automatically perform the required addressing
Thales Avionics Proprietary and Confidential

Maintenance Procedures
IP Sequence 3

During Phase 2:
• SEBs that require a new address will reboot and apply the new
address.
• The progress bar displays the number of SEBs reporting after they
reboot.
• Once all expected SEB responses are received or the maximum
timeout has been reached (10 minutes), the IP Sequence Report
screen will appear.

IP Sequence 3

During Phase 2:
• SEBs that require a new address will reboot and apply the new address.
• The progress bar displays the number of SEBs reporting after they reboot.
• Once all expected SEB responses are received or the maximum timeout has
been reached (10 minutes), the IP Sequence Report screen will appear.

Function Event Time-Out Max Time

When the percent complete indicator reaches 100%, (Phase

1 or Phase 2):

• The report identifies, by seat position, the SEBs being
driven by each ADB number and ADB column.

IP Sequence 3

Green – Reports Green when a new SEB is installed in an in-service system; Good
Purple – Reports Purple when an SEB reports incorrectly after phase II sequence; Bad, Re-sequence
Blue – Received IP/MAC address but failed to report back; Bad, Re-sequence
Gray – Reports Gray when all SEBs report correctly good on an in service system; Good
Red – Reports Red when SEB is dead; Bad, check power, check cable or replace SEB i4
Yellow – Reports Yellow when column length is greater than expected; Bad, find source of error
Brown – Reports Brown when reports invalid status back; Bad, Re-sequence

Notes

After IP Sequencing, it will take 2 to 3 minutes for all SEBs to reboot.

You must wait for all SEBs to complete reboot before starting Phase II download to the SEB. Also, ensure that the DSU AM6-12 has ALL the
correct SEB software before downloading.
