Components
• Energy: COVID-19 need more energy than normal (84-126
kJ/kg/day)
• Protein: to reduce the catabolism due to the inflammatory
mediators, it is indicated to increase protein supply (1.3 g/kg/day)
• Carbohydrates: should be limited in the critically COVID-19
patient with respiratory failure (2 g/kg/day and must not exceed
150 g per day)
• Fat: the lipid requirement of the critically ill patient is 1.5
g/kg/day (increase the proportion of ω-3 fatty acids and ω-9 fatty
acids)

• Fluid volume: maintain neutral fluid balance in critically COVID-19
patients (30 mL/kg/day of fluid for adult and 28 mL/kg/day for elderly)
• Micronutrients: among routine supplements of multivitamins (Vitamin
C, D) and minerals, as complex of vitamin B, zinc, and selenium.
• Immunonutrients: influence immune system and improve metabolic
and nutritional indices, such as arginine, nucleotides, glutamine, ω-3
fatty acids.
• Probiotics and polyphenol supplementation: restore innate and
adaptive immunity; can secrete and respond to various cytokines,
produce the anti-inflammatory effects
