DR RESHMA J
Magnet
• A body or piece of iron, steel to which have properties of attraction and repulsion
• Quality of attracting iron particles to itself
• Magneto therapy is alternate medical therapy or practice that use static magnet of varies size
and strength placed on the body to relive pain
TYPES OF MAGNET
• Natural magnet
• Artificial magnet
• Natural magnet
• Natural magnet represented the substance created by nature, which have property of
attraction
• Earth is a example of natural magnet
• Artificial magnet
• Magnet which are made with different potential and designs in many ways to suit
requirements
• Artificial magnet is divided into two categories:
• Electromagnets
• Permanent magnet
Electromagnets
• Which works when electricity is applied and has no power to act on there own without
electricity
Examples
• Electric machines,Generators,motors
Permanent Magnet
• Magnet which remain permanently magnetized once it is charged with electric current and
can used without electricity
Ceramic magnet
• Some magnets are also made up from synthetic materials called as ferrite
• Ceramic magnet are manufactured from oxide of ferric and barium
Examples:
• Communication:loud speakers
• Electricals :motors
• Electronics:Calulators
• Transport:Car motors
CLASSIFICATION OF
MAGNET(SHAPE)
• Classification based on Shape
• Bar magnet
• Cylindrical magnet
• Ring magnet
• Rectangular magnet
• Arc magnet
• U shape magnet
• Horse shoe magnet
• Square magnet
• Cup magnet
• Classification based on clinical use:
• Magnetic belt
• Magnetic chair
• Magnetic slipper
• Magnetised water
• Magnetised oils
CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO
POWER
• High power
• Low power
• Medium power
PROPERTIES OF MAGNET
1. Magnets attract objects of iron, cobalt and nickel.
2. The force of attraction of a magnet is greater at its poles than in the middle.
3. Like poles of two magnets repel each other.
4. Opposite poles of two magnets attracts each other
5. If a bar magnet is suspended by a thread and if it is free to rotate, South Pole will move
towards the North Pole of the earth and vice versa.
