The act of sharing or exchanging information, ideas or feelings

Communication serves four major functions within a group or


organization: control, motivation, emotional expression and
information

Purposes. Communication serves five major


purposes: to inform, to express feelings, to imagine,
to influence, and to meet social expectations. Each
of these purposes is reflected in a form of
communication.

 Clear—main ideas easily identified and understood


 Concise—gets to the point without using unneeded
words or images
 Concrete—includes specific examples or explanations
 Correct—in information, word choice, and grammar
 Coherent—information presented in a logical sequence
 Complete—enough information so the audience can
understand
 Courteous—polite, professional tone
