READING TEXT
Note: Students will be grouped into five and each group will read the parts of the paragraph
in different colors starting with group 1.

Plastic pollution is one of the worst environmental problems facing the

Philippines. It has serious impacts on the environment and human health
so reducing plastic waste is crucial for the future of marine ecosystems,
human health, and communities that rely on fishing and tourism.

Firstly, plastic pollution poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems. Marine

animals, such as sea turtles, whales, and dolphins, often mistake plastic debris for
food and can suffer injury or death from ingesting plastic waste. This disrupts the
delicate balance of marine life and biodiversity.

Secondly, plastic waste poses a significant threat to human health. Plastic takes hundreds
of years to decompose, and when it does, it releases toxic chemicals into the soil and
water. These toxins can contaminate our food and water sources and enter the food
chain. This affects not only marine life but also humans, and can lead to health issues such
as hormonal imbalances and even cancer.
Thirdly, plastic pollution has economic consequences as well. Coastal
communities that depend on fishing and tourism suffer when plastic
pollution damages their marine resources and their natural attractions.
They could lose their jobs and livelihood.

By reducing plastic waste, we can protect our marine ecosystems, safeguard

our health, and support our coastal communities. Simple actions such as
using reusable bags, botles, and containers, as well as recycling and properly
disposing of plastic waste, can make a significant impact. It's important for all
of us to take responsibility and work together to create a cleaner and
healthier future for ourselves and generations to come.
