table across from you without releasing your hands from
the tablecloth.
6.Release the bottommost layer followed by the other
layers by dragging the tablecloth towards you.
7.Make sure that the tablecloth is aligned at the center and
that the overhang on all edges of the table are equal.

TOPIC 3: PREPARING THE WAITER'S STATION
ALSO KNOWN AS THE SERVICE STATION, THE WAITER’S STATION IS A TABLE OR A
DRAWER SET UP IN A RESTAURANT THAT CONTAINS THE NECESSARY ITEMS TO
ASSIST THE STAFF IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES.
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO SEE
HOW TO SET A TABLE.
WHAT GOES FIRST ON THE TABLE?

The napkin

Explanation
The napkin goes first on the table because it is a
common etiquette to place the napkin on your lap
before starting a meal. It is considered polite and
hygienic to have the napkin readily available to
wipe your mouth or hands during the meal. Placing
the napkin on the table before any other items
indicates that you are ready to begin the meal.
THEN, WE PUT...
The dinner fork

Explanation
The correct answer is "the dinner fork" because in a
formal table setting, the dinner fork is typically placed
closest to the plate on the left side. The dessert fork is
usually placed above the plate, the salad fork is placed
to the left of the dinner fork, and the spoon is placed to
the right of the dinner knife.
THEN, WE PUT...
The salad fork

Explanation
The correct answer is the salad fork because in a
traditional place setting, the salad fork is placed to the
left of the dinner fork. This is done to ensure that the
salad fork is readily available for the salad course of the
meal.
TO THE RIGHT OF THE PLATE, THERE ARE...
2 knives

Explanation
The correct answer is 2 knives because the question
states that "To the right of the plate, there are" and then
lists the different items. Out of the options given, the
only one that mentions knives is "2 knives." Therefore,
the correct answer is 2 knives.
ABOVE THE NAPKIN, WE PUT...
A dessert fork

Explanation
In formal dining settings, the order of utensils from the
outside in represents the order in which they will be
used. Since the dessert fork is listed last, it indicates
that it should be placed above the napkin.
ABOVE THE DESSERT FORK, WE PUT...
A dessert spoon

Explanation
Above the dessert fork, we put a dessert spoon. This is
because a dessert spoon is typically used for eating
desserts and is placed above the dessert fork in a table
setting. The dessert spoon is larger than a teaspoon and
is designed to be used for scooping and eating desserts,
such as pudding or ice cream.
ABOVE THE TWO KNIVES, WE PUT...

The glasses

Explanation
The glasses are placed above the two knives. This suggests
that the arrangement is being described in terms of the
placement of items on a table setting. In a typical table
setting, the knives are usually placed on the right side of the
plate, and the glasses are placed above the knives on the
right side. Therefore, the glasses would be the correct
answer in this context.
AFTER THE GLASSES, WE PUT...

Salt
Pepper

Explanation
After the glasses, we put salt and pepper. This suggests that
salt and pepper are the items that come after the glasses in a
sequence or arrangement. It implies that the glasses are
being followed by salt and pepper in some context or
situation.
AFTER THE GLASSES, WE PUT...
