LITERATURE REVIEW

 Kavimani et al. (2019) investigated the impacts of Wire Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM) parameter on
Material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (Ra) for the newly developed Magnesium metal matrix
composite. Two material parameters (namely reinforcement wt.%, SiC doping %) and three machining parameters
(viz. Pulse-On Time (P-ON), Pulse-Off Time (P-OFF), and Wire Feed Rate (WFD)) have been selected to study
their effects on the desired output responses (MRR and Ra). The output responses are then analyzed using Taguchi.
The general belief in any such investigations is that increase in P-ON increases MRR.

 Kavimani et al. (2019) adopted Taguchi coupled grey relation analysis to study the effects of machining parameters
of Wire Electrical-Discharge Machining (WEDM) on magnesium metal matrix composite reinforced with Reduced
Graphene Oxide. An optimal combination of process parameter was expected to be finalized in this research to
attain maximum MRR with a minimal SR value. The composite was fabricated through solvent based powder
metallurgy route for varying percentage of r-GO. Experimental combination for WEDM of developed composite
specimens were finalized to be L27 orthogonal array (OA) using Taguchi's method mainly based on the control
factors namely reinforcement weight percentage (wt.%), pulse ON time, pulse OFF time and wire feed rate.
ANOVA results revealed that wt.% and P1 are the most influencing parameters for MRR and SR.
 Prashantha et al. (2017) have evaluated the performance of WEDM on Al 6061 alloy reinforced with SiC metal matrix
composite at varying process parameters. The experimental study focused on the influence parameters of the material removal
process with the change in machining conditions and reinforcement contents. The inclusion of SiC content in the Al
composite significantly affects the material removal rate.

 A combination of Taguchi methodology and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) has been proposed by Kavimani et al. (2020) to
understand the machining behavior of Wire Electrical-Discharge Machining (WEDM) performed on Magnesium based metal
matrix composite. WEDM of developed composite specimens were confirmed to be of L27 orthogonal array(OA) using
Taguchi’s method, based mainly on control factors namely reinforcement weight percentage (wt.%), Doping (DP %), Pulse
ON time (T-ON), Pulse OFF time (T-OFF) and wire feed rate (WF). ANOVA outcome reveals that wt.% and DP% are the
most influencing parameter for MRR and SR.

 Amresh Kumar et al. (2020) have done investigations to assess the influence of input process parameters of machinability of
wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process for machining of triple-reinforced silicon carbide, graphite, and iron
oxide hybrid aluminum (Al-6061) metal matrix composites. The composite work specimens, developed using stir casting
process, have been processed through WEDM process by adopting a statistically controlled design of experimentation
approach. Furthermore, analysis of variance and regression analysis have been performed to understand the influence of the
input process parameters on material removal rate (MRR) and spark gap.
