History of alcoholic drinks
The history of alcoholic beverages is a long and
fascinating one, dating back to the dawn of
civilization. Archaeological evidence suggests
that humans have been making and consuming
alcoholic drinks for over 10,000 years. The
earliest known evidence of alcoholic beverages
comes from China, where residue in clay pots
has revealed that people were making an
alcoholic beverage from fermented rice, millet,
grapes, and honey around 7000 BC.
Over time, the production of alcoholic beverages became more
sophisticated. Distillation, a process that concentrates alcohol in a
liquid, was developed in the Middle East in the 12th century. This led
to the creation of spirits, such as whiskey, vodka, and rum.
Here is a timeline of some of the key events in
the history of alcoholic beverages:
• 7000 BC: The earliest known evidence of alcoholic beverages comes from China, where residue in
clay pots has revealed that people were making an alcoholic beverage from fermented rice, millet,
grapes, and honey.
• 3000 BC: Wine is made from grapes and other fruits in the Middle East.
• 2500 BC: Beer is made from barley and wheat in Egypt.
• 1000 BC: Fermented drinks are made from corn, agave, and other plants in Mesoamerica.
• 12th century: Distillation, a process that concentrates alcohol in a liquid, is developed in the Middle
East. This leads to the creation of spirits, such as whiskey, vodka, and rum.
• 18th century: The Industrial Revolution leads to a further increase in the production of alcoholic
beverages.
• 20th century: Mass production and refrigeration make it possible to produce and transport alcoholic
beverages on a large scale.
• 21st century: Alcoholic beverages are enjoyed by people all over the world. They are a popular way
to relax, socialize, and celebrate.
The alcohol industry is a global business
with a long and complex history. It
encompasses the production,
distribution, and sale of alcoholic
beverages, including beer, wine, spirits,
and liqueurs. The industry is a major
source of revenue for governments
around the world, and it employs
millions of people worldwide.
The legality and availability of alcohol in
supermarkets varies depending on the country
and its laws. In some countries, such as the United
States, it is legal to sell alcohol in supermarkets.
In other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, it is
illegal to sell alcohol in any store.
Here are some of the arguments against allowing the sale
of alcohol in supermarkets:

• It can increase alcohol consumption and alcohol-related

problems.
• It can make it easier for underage people to access alcohol.
• It can send the message that alcohol is a normal and acceptable
part of everyday life.
