ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION

KANDIL,MECHANIC CHOWK, SOLAPUR

 DEFECTS:
 INTRODUCTION:
These lamp- posts with kerosene lamps were found at all
junctions in Solapur before the advent of electricity. Only six are
still standing. They are made of carved Shahabad stone base and
cast iron post with provision to hang 5 kerosene lamps which
were lit everyday at dusk.

 OBSERVATIONS:
• Some part of Kandil was broken.
• The tiles were uneven, walking properly was difficult.
• No cleaning is done around the Kandil.
• A proper compound was constructed around the Kandil.
• Gate of the compound was broken.
• The steps of the plinth were uneven.
• No maintenance of the Kandil was performed.
• The Kandil was not in a working stage.
