RUNWAYS
Runway.- A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing
and take-off of aircraft.
Instrument runway. One of the following types of runways intended for the
operation of aircraft using instrument approach procedures:

a) Non-precision approach runway. A runway served by visual aids and non-visual


aid(s) intended for landing operations following an instrument approach
operation type A and a visibility not less than 1 000 m.

b) Precision approach runway, category I. A runway served by visual aids and non-
visual aid(s) intended for landing operations following an instrument approach
operation type B with a decision height (DH) not lower than 60 m (200 ft) and either
a visibility not less than 800 m or a runway visual range not less than 550 m.

c) Precision approach runway, category II. A runway served by visual aids and
non-visual aid(s) intended for landing operations following an instrument approach
operation type B with a decision height (DH) lower than 60 m (200 ft) but not lower
than 30 m (100 ft) and a runway visual range not less than 300 m.
d) Precision approach runway, category III. A runway served by visual aids and non-
visual aid(s) intended for landing operations following an instrument approach operation
type B to and along the surface of the runway and:
A —intended for operations with a decision height (DH) lower than 30 m (100 ft), or no
decision height and a runway visual range not less than 175 m.
B —intended for operations with a decision height (DH) lower than 15 m (50 ft), or no
decision height and a runway visual range less than 175 m but not less than 50 m.
C —intended for operations with no decision height (DH) and no runway visual range
limitations
RUNWAY MARKINGS

Runway markings shall be white.

Runway turn pad markings markings shall be yellow.


NOTAM (Notice to Airmen)

A notice distributed by means of telecommunication


containing information concerning the establish condition or change in any
aeronautical facility, service, procedure or hazard, the timely knowledge of
which is essential to personnel concerned with flight operations.

For information of a temporary nature and of short duration


or
For operationally significant permanent changes, made at short notice
or
For temporary changes of long duration , made at short notice
except
For extensive text and/or graphics
NOTAMS

Deals with one subject and one condition.


Only for operationally significant /safety critical issues.
Shall be as brief as possible, in plain language and so compiled that its meaning
is clear without the need to refer to another document.
Originated by the International NOTAM Office at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and
Mumbai in India
Distributed in five series identified by the letters A, B, C, D and G by AIS in
India.

Each NOTAM is :
•identified by a letter and a four-digit number, followed by a stroke and a two-
digit number for the year
•number must be consecutive starting on 1 January with number 0001 for each
series.
•Use letters A to Z, with the exception of S and T, to identify a NOTAM series.
•Renumbering of existing NOTAM (i.e. containing identical information,but with
a new number) is not allowed.
TYPES OF NOTAMS
a) NOTAMN : NOTAM containing new information.

b) NOTAMR : NOTAM replacing a previous NOTAM, with mention of


previous NOTAM number

c) NOTAMC : NOTAM cancelling a previous NOTAM, with mention of


previous NOTAM number

A erroneous NOTAM can be either cancelled or replaced .

NOTAM SERIES

I) series A -Contain information in respect of changes/unserviceability etc of


aeronautical facilities, likely to last for more than 2 hours, in respect of
locations of direct importance to International aircraft operations, requiring
general international distribution.

II) Series B -Contain information in respect of changes/unserviceability etc , of


aeronautical facilities, likely to last for more than 30 minutes but less than
two hours in respect of locations of direct importance to international
aircraft operations, requiring limited distribution to adjacent stations only.
iii) Series C -Contain information in respect of changes/unserviceability, etc. , of
aeronautical facilities in respect, of locations utilized by domestic flights only and for
which no separate A' series international distribution is given.

iv) Series D -Contain information in respect of changes/unserviceability etc. , of


aeronautical facilities in respect of locations of military controlled airfields utilized by
domestic flights the information of which is issued by AHQ .

v) Series G-Contain information of general and lasting character affecting aircraft


operations in general. The series is operated only by the International NOTAM Office,
Delhi and issued under the authority of the AAI CHQ AIS office.
