SOUND
z
Sound

 Sound is a vibration that

propagates as an acoustic
wave, through a transmission
medium such as a gas, liquid
or solid. In human physiology
and psychology, sound is the
reception of such waves and
their perception by the brain.
z
Sound wave

 Sound waves are a wave of

compression and rarefaction,
by which sound is
propagated in an elastic
medium such as air.
z
Describing wave

This presentation will be about  Amplitude

sound, It
Amplitude is the maximum
movement of the particles that
make up a wave from their rest
position. Amplitude is measured
in metres.
z
Describing waves

 Wavelength

1. Wavelength is the distance

between one wave peak and
the next wave peak along
the path of the wave.
Wavelength is measured in
metres.
z
Describing waves

 Frequency

Frequency is the number of

wave peaks that past a point in a
second, Frequency is measured
in hertz

1Hz = 1 peaks per second

2Hz = 2 peaks per second

z
Defining Waves

 Time period

Time period is the time taken for

a source to create a wave

Time period = 1/frequencY

Frequency = 1/time period

z
Conclusion

 Sound is a type of energy

made by vibrations. When an
object vibrates, it causes
movement in surrounding air
molecules. These molecules
bump into the molecules
close to them, causing them
to vibrate as well.
z
Questions

 How many hertz is 1KHz?

 How long does it take a sound

source to create a wave if the
frequency is 2.5?
