An Overview :
Acute Pharyngitis

• Acute Pharyngitis is the acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of


the pharynx.
• It is characterised by throat pain which is aggravated by swallowing and also
sore throat.
Demographic Details

• Patient name- Sujata


• Age-26
• Sex- Female
• Unit- Female medical ward
• Date- 28/09/23
Chief Complaints

• Throat pain
• Burning sensation in throat
• Difficulty in swallowing
• Decreased appetite/thirst
• B/L ear pain radiating to jaw
• Vertigo
Patient History

• Medication- No medication history


• Family History- No family history
System Examination

• Respiratory system- NVBS heard


• CVS- S1S2 heard , no murmurs
Vitals

• Temperature- 102˚F
• BP- 120/80 mmHg
• Pulse- 94 bpm
Physical Examination

• Uvula- redness and inflammation present


• Throat- redness present

WBC- neutrophils 7500cells/uL 2500-7000cells/uL
RBC 4.85million cells / uL 4.2-5.4 millions cells/uL
Haemoglobin 13.3g/dL 11.6-15g/dL
Platelets 1.9 lakhs/uL 1.5-3.75 lakhs/uL
Diagnosis

• Based on subjective evidence and objective evidence the disease is


diagnosed as Acute Pharyngitis.

Patient Counselling

• Disease- Acute Pharyngitis is the acute inflammation of the mucous


membrane of the oropharynx.
• Drug-
1. Penicillin V- should not miss the dose ; if missed continue the regimen but
do not take double dose.
2. Mercurius solubilis 200- take the medicine after 30 minutes gap after
taking food/any other medicine.
• Diet-
1. Warm liquids such as soups and broths are recommended.
2. Honey should be taken daily.
3. Eucalyptus cough syrups are recommended.
4. Hot tea like – Chamomile tea are recommended.
• Lifestyle Modifications-
1. Drink lots of fluids. Water and warm broths are better than soft drinks.
2. Gargle several times in a day.
3. Wash your hands frequently.
4. Take plenty of rest.
