LESSON CONTENT
1. START & STOP
I started learning French last June.
[for things starting at a specific time]
[begin: less common in this pattern]

I started to feel better after the accident.


START/ BEGIN
[for things that start but are not completed]
You should stop worrying; everything is going
to be fine.
[for things that do not continue anymore]

On my way there, I stopped to buy a pen.


STOP
[for things that are stopped in order to do
something else]
FINISH + V-ING
I have finished writing that letter.
[for things that are completed]

FINISH UP + V-ING
I was only going to stay for a week, but I
finished up staying for a month.
[for things that happen finally after a series of
STOP actions, events or developments]

GAVE UP + V-ING
Helen gave up smoking three years ago.
[for a habit that is stopped]
2. THINK, REMEMBER & DECIDE
CONSIDER + V-ING
I am considering going to the USA for my
summer holiday.
[think about something to make a decision]
IMAGINE + V-ING
She never imagined becoming famous.
[think about something as possible]
THINK
DREAM OF + V-ING
I’ve always dreamt of living by the sea.
[think about something that is desired but
unlikely to happen]
