We say or write as a decimal, we write we can also say
One tenth .1 “point one”
Two tenths .2 “point two”
Three tenths .3 “point three”
Four tenths .4 “point four”
Five tenths .5 “point five”
In other way, when we write a number as tenths, we write the number to the right of the
decimal point in the tenth place. And we always read the decimal point as “and”
For example .6 we can say : “six tenths” or “point six”
1.6 we say: “one and six tenths” or “one point six”
2.7 we say: “ two and seven tenths” or “two point seven”

Note once again that we always read the decimal point as “and” and we always use the place name at the end
of the decimal, for example:
1.32 we say: ”one and thirty two hundredths” or “ one point three two”
1.66 we say: “one and sixty six hundredths” or “one point six six”

Basic Time Telling
1. On the Hour:
1. When the minute hand is on the 12, you say the hour.
2. Example: 3:00 - "It's three o'clock."
2. Quarter Past, Half Past, Quarter To:
1. Quarter Past: When the minute hand is on the 3, it's 15 minutes past the
hour. Example: 3:15 - "It's a quarter past three."
2. Half Past: When the minute hand is on the 6, it's 30 minutes past the hour.
Example: 3:30 - "It's half past three."
3. Quarter To: When the minute hand is on the 9, it's 15 minutes to the next
hour. Example: 3:45 - "It's a quarter to four."

3. Minutes Past and To the Hour:
1. Minutes Past: For any minute past the hour up to 30 minutes.
1. Example: 3:05 - "It's five past three."
2. Example: 3:20 - "It's twenty past three."
2. Minutes To: For any minute from 31 to 59, we refer to how many minutes until the next
hour.
1. Example: 3:40 - "It's twenty to four."
2. Example: 3:55 - "It's five to four.“

Using AM and PM
1. AM and PM:
1. AM is used for times from midnight (12:00 AM) to just before noon
(11:59 AM).
2. PM is used for times from noon (12:00 PM) to just before midnight
(11:59 PM).
3. Example: 8:00 AM - "It's eight o'clock in the morning."
4. Example: 8:00 PM - "It's eight o'clock in the evening."

9.The water drainage system inspection is set for 4:10 PM next Tuesday.
10.The construction noise ordinance restricts heavy machinery use before 7:20 AM
and after 6:50 PM.
