Modelling
using upcycled
plastic waste
products
Premise
▸ The project aims to highlight the upcycling of plastic
wastes to give it a renewed form and function by
repurposing it into something that can be of some
value.
▸ The idea of upcycling is a promising one as plastic
wastes that ends up polluting our oceans and lands,
are being subjected to a process of value addition,
thereby being instrumental in the reduction of plastic
waste in our environment and the menace caused by
it.

2
Plan of Action
▸ The objective of the project is to upcycle waste plastic
into items of everyday use such as chairs, tables,
bottles, phone covers, boxes and vessels.
▸ Since our proposal involves the use of 3D printers and
given the dire circumstances and the lack of
materials/equipment to physically make it, we have
used Software simulations and other services to model
and conceive our proposition.
▸ The softwares used are Solidworks, AutoDesk Fusion
360 and Utilmaker Cura 4.

CAD Modelling
CAD Modelling
CAD Modelling or Computer-aided Design is an
important part of the design process. Before
expending any physical resources, CAD brings your
idea to life in the digital world. Computer Aided
Designs are used for a variety of applications
ranging from 3d printing prototypes to promotional
photo-realistic renderings.

CAD Simulation
CAD Simulation
▸ Simulation software allows engineers to evaluate, optimize, and
compare product designs by modeling real world events in a
computer generated environment. It is a facet of computer-aided
engineering (CAE) software. Simulation software can create any
model that is governed by equations or mathematical data and
place it in a pre-defined system.
▸ By analyzing these constructs, engineers can observe how the
model and system interact, thereby predicting performance,
defects, stresses, and product lifespan.
▸ The simulation software we have used for validation and testing
our model is a widely used testing software called Autodesk Fusion
360.

3D Printing Optimization
3D Printing Optimization
Optimization of process parameters is done to have great
control over quality, productivity and cost aspects of the
process. Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is an
Additive Manufacturing Technology for printing 3D
objects layer by layer. Rapid Prototyping (RP) is the term
given to a set of processes that can quickly fabricate any
given threedimensional object into a model or prototype,
directly from a CAD file via the additive deposition of
individual crosssectional layers of the part.
