FUNCTION

GENRATOR

BY SUMIT SAROJ (20215155)

WHAT IS A FUNCTION GENERATOR?

• A function generator is an electronic test equipment that generates standard

waveforms, such as sine, square, ramp, or sawtooth waves, to a device under test
(DUT). It is a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of applications, including:
• Testing electronic circuits
• Designing and debugging digital systems
• Generating signals for audio or video applications
• Creating waveforms for educational or research purposes

HOW DOES A FUNCTION GENERATOR
WORK?
A FUNCTION GENERATOR TYPICALLY GENERATES ITS WAVEFORMS
USING A COMBINATION OF OSCILLATORS, AMPLIFIERS, AND
COMPARATORS. THE OSCILLATOR CREATES A BASIC WAVEFORM, SUCH
AS A SINE WAVE, AND THE AMPLIFIER AMPLIFIES THAT WAVEFORM TO
THE DESIRED OUTPUT LEVEL. THE COMPARATOR THEN COMPARES
THE OUTPUT OF THE AMPLIFIER TO A REFERENCE VOLTAGE, AND
GENERATES A SQUARE WAVE OR OTHER WAVEFORM BASED ON THE
RESULTS OF THE COMPARISON.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF
FUNCTION GENERATORS?
• There are two main types of function generators: analog and digital. Analog
function generators generate waveforms using analog circuitry, while digital
function generators generate waveforms using digital circuitry. Analog function
generators are typically less expensive than digital function generators, but they
have a narrower frequency range and are less accurate. Digital function generators
are more expensive, but they have a wider frequency range and are more accurate.
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF A FUNCTION
GENERATOR?

• The features of a function generator vary depending on the model. However, most function
generators have the following features:
• A variety of waveform types: sine, square, triangle, sawtooth, pulse, and noise
• A wide frequency range: from a few Hz to a few MHz
• Amplitude control: from a few millivolts to a few volts
• Output level: typically 10 volts peak-to-peak
• Triggering: external or internal trigger
• Modulation: frequency modulation, amplitude modulation, and pulse width modulation
HOW TO USE A FUNCTION GENERATOR?

• To use a function generator, you first need to select the desired waveform
type. Then, you need to set the frequency and amplitude of the waveform.
Finally, you need to connect the output of the function generator to the DUT.
CONCLUSION:

• Function generators are versatile tools that can be used for a variety of
applications. They are an essential tool for electronic engineers, and they can
also be used by hobbyists and students.
