Motivation for Present Work
 India uses 100 million tons of oil annually, of which 40% is consumed in
industries.
 60% to 70% of this use is in the form of thermal energy, out of which 70% is
used for applications below 250 °C.
 Gujarat is one of the region, having the bright sun light weather for more than
250 to 300 days per year.[5]
 So, Parabolic Trough Collectors has a large scope in these conditions.

Investigation of absorber tube for solar
9.collector
Conclusion:
 The convective heat transfer is predominant, so Linear curve is obtained.

 5 mm cut tube is considered as optimum as it has lower heat loss compare to others.

 Insulation play significant role to reduce heat loss from absorber tube (20% reduction in heat
loss for 5 mm cut tube).
 Optimum thickness of insulation is 7.5 mm for 5mm cut tube.

Conclusion:
 Further Work Plan
 Define parameter for variation of cut length.
 Apply Local Solar radiation at bottom surface with fluid flow and observe temperature
distribution for various cut length.
 Investigate various geometries for bottom surface area to maximize solar heat concentration.
 Optimum geometrical configuration which has lower heat loss from upper surface and
maximum solar heat concentration at bottom side.
