Sustainable Transport
Day?
 World Sustainable Transport Day is a new initiative by the
United Nations to promote sustainable transport cooperation
and raise awareness of the benefits of low-carbon and
inclusive mobility solutions. It is celebrated every year on
November 26, starting from 2023. The UN General
Assembly adopted the resolution to designate this day at its
77th session, following a proposal by the government of
Turkmenistan and the support of 66 other countries. The
resolution also invites the UN and other stakeholders to
coordinate their efforts and collaborate in providing
financial and technical assistance to countries, especially
developing ones, to improve their transport systems.
 How World Sustainable Transport Day
Promotes A Greener And Safer Future

 World Sustainable Transport Day aims to address various global

challenges, such as climate change, air pollution, road safety, social
equity, economic development and urban planning, by highlighting
the role of sustainable transport in achieving the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, the New Urban
Agenda and the Political Declaration on improving global road
safety. The resolution encourages all UN member states and
organisations, as well as civil society and individuals, to mark this
day by launching education campaigns and events that enhance
public knowledge on sustainable transport issues. Some examples
of sustainable transport modes are cycling, walking, public transit,
electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells, biofuels and renewable
energy sources .
