Electric Field

Електрично поле
1. Definition:
• An electric
property
associated with
each point in
space when
charge is
present in any
form.
2. Electric Field Vector/ Field Intensity:
• The strength of the electric field is a measure
using a quantity called the electric field
intensity;
• The greater the electrical field intensity the
stronger the field;
• The electrical field intensity is the force on an
unit positive charge placed at that point in the
field: E = F/q0 ; [N/C].
• E characterizes the field in each point.
3. Electric Field of a Point Charge:
4. Electric Field Lines/ Lines of Force:
• An electric line of
force is an
imaginary
continuous line or
curve drawn in an
electric field such
that tangent to it
at any point gives
the direction of
the field at that
point.
• They are
always
directed from
positive
charge to
negative
charge or
infinity.
• They cannot
be closed
curved lines
or cross
each other,
or break at a
point, where
there is no
electric
charge.
• The number of
lines, leaving a
positive
charge or
terminating a
negative
charge, is
proportional
to the
magnitude of
the charge.
• An electric field,
which has the
same magnitude
and direction at
all points, is said
to be uniform
(homogeneous).
