UNRAVELLING THE

MYSTERIES OF SPACE
PRESENTED BY

INTRODUCTION TO SPACE
IN MATHS
 More precisely, isomorphic spaces are considered identical, where an isomorphism between two spaces is a
one-to-one correspondence between their points that preserves the relationships. For example, the relationships
between the points of a three-dimensional Euclidean space are uniquely determined by Euclid's axioms
 Overview of types of abstract spaces. An arrow indicates is also a kind of; for instance, a normed vector space
is also a metric space.
 A space consists of selected mathematical objects that are treated as points, and selected relationships between
these points. The nature of the points can vary widely: for example, the points can be elements of a set,
functions on another space, or subspaces of another space. It is the relationships that define the nature of the
space
THE MYSTERIES OF SPACE
Our species has barely gone past our own planet's moon, and only one of our probes, Voyager 1, has even left the
solar system. Much of what we've learned about deep space has been pieced together from falling objects and
views from telescopes.

Some of the famous (and chilling) space mysteries, like the face on Mars (it was shadows), or the black knight
satellite "UFO" (it's satellite debris), have been solved. But space is rife with unexplained phenomena that put
those two mere optical illusions to shame.

Some of the seven included in this slideshow could hold the key to understanding the universe. By far the largest
amount of matter is dark and consists of unknown particles. If that wasn't mysterious enough, the vacuum of
empty space is filled with a mysterious dark energy that accelerates the expansion of the Universe.
WHERE MATHS MEETS PHYSICS ?!
• An example of mathematical thinking
• Mathematicians look for patterns and ask if that pattern is just a special case or indicative of
something deeper. A simple example of a mathematical pattern.
• One can manually calculate additional values in the series, but it’s impossible to prove that this
pattern exists beyond this series without infinite calculations. Instead, mathematicians use proofs,
a logical argument that shows that something is true.
WHY IS SPACE EXPLORATION
IMPORTANT?
 Space exploration allows us to prove or disprove scientific theories developed on Earth. Studying the solar
system, for example, has brought us insights into such phenomena as gravity, the magnetosphere, the
atmosphere, fluid dynamics and the geological evolution of other planets. Humanity's interest in the
heavens has been universal and enduring. Humans are driven to explore the unknown, discover new
worlds, push the boundaries of our scientific and technical limits, and then push further.

 Human space exploration helps to address fundamental questions about our place in the Universe and the
history of our solar system. Through addressing the challenges related to human space exploration we
expand technology, create new industries, and help to foster a peaceful connection with other nations.
Curiosity and exploration are vital to the human spirit and accepting the challenge of going deeper into
space.
