QUESTIONS TO ASK ABOUT TIG?
/What is the application?
/Is the application Manual, Robotic or Hard Automation?
/Can it be done using MIG/MAG or CMT?
/What is the base material?
/What is the material thickness?
/What is the expected quality and weld appearance?
/Do you have access to the joint with both hand?
/Does the part have complex geometry and assembled components?
/What is the main input voltage?
/Is the welding done in the field or in the shop?
/Are there any WPS or Welding Standards that need to be respected?

TIG APPLICATIONS
/ Most Common TIG applications will involve manual welding, including repair, light duty
and custom fabrication, where quality and weld appearance are important.
/ Aerospace, Chemical processing plants, Food and Sanitary applications.
/ Pipe welding, complex tubular assemblies, and small radius components.
/ Aluminum fabrication and castings repairs, Stainless Steel Sheet metal components, thin
gauge material and exotic alloys.

CHOOSING BETWEEN TIG, MIG/MAG AND CMT
/ If the application involves Robotic or Hard Automation, chances are a Fronius MIG/MAG
or CMT system can achieve the same quality as TIG. This is typically done on Aluminum,
since the rapid cooling of the weld, creates a visual affect similar with TIG, often using
SyncroPulse function.

CHOOSING BETWEEN TIG, MIG/MAG AND CMT
/ If the application involves Manual welding, some application can replace TIG with
MIG/MAG/CMT, but only if the joint set-up, material thickness and degree of movement
allows you too.
/ If not please consider using TIG for better control, dexterity and quality welds!

/ Questions you should know:
1. What is the base Material?
2. Will the customer ever weld Aluminum, ever?
3. What is the material thickness?
4. What is the main input Voltage?
5. What is the expected Duty Cycle?
Focus on MagicWave 2200 and 3000 You can’t go wrong for Manual
welding applications!
General rule of thumb starting parameters. (This rule may apply up to 0.190” / 4.8mm)
Steel 0.001” X 1.0A 3mm/ .125” = 125A Approx.
Aluminum 0.001” X 1.1A – 1.3A 6mm/ .250” = 300A Approx.
Stainless Steel 0.001 X 0.8A – 1.0A 1.6mm/ 0.063” = 55A Approx.
