Turn and Talk

With a partner, let's refresh our memory with some basic addition facts.

What is 15 + 4?

Hint: No regrouping is needed here!

The answer is 19.

Tell your partner how you solved the problem.

What Is Addition Without
Regrouping?
Addition without regrouping is like combining groups of things where each group
doesn't have more than 9 items. You start by adding the ones place, and if the total
is less than 10, you write it down. Then, you move to the next group, the tens
place, and add those numbers. Write down your answer. Finally, you read your
answer, which is made by combining the tens and ones.
How To Solve Addition Without
Regrouping
1. Start from the right and move to the left.
2. Add both numbers from the ones column. Write the answer under the line.
3. If this is a single-digit answer, which means it is less than 10, there is no need
to regroup.
4. Next, move to the tens column. Add both numbers from the tens column and
write the answer under the line.
