SRINIVASA RAMANUJAN
INTRODUCTION

Born on 22-December-1887 at Kumbhakonam in


Chennai.
Father : K.Srinivasa Iyengar
Mother : Komalat Ammal
Spouse : Janaki Ammal
Education and Employment

He started his schooling in 1892 and completed his


secondary education.
1906 – Government Arts College,Kumbhakonam
1916 – University of Cambridge
1920 – Trinity College Cambridge (B.Sc.,)
He started as Accounts clerk in Madras Port trust.

He found a solution for an interesting problem i.e.,
there are houses numbered from 50 to 500 . He
took randomly a house whose left sum and right
sum of houses is equal. His task was to find the
house number he randomly selected?????????
Awards and Achievements

He was elected a Fellow of Royal Society in 1918.


As one of the youngest fellows in the history of Royal
society.
Elected for his investigation of Elliptical functions
and theory of numbers.
In the same year he also elected as a member of
Trinity College, the first Indian to be so honoured.
His birthday on 22 December is celebrated as State
IT in Tamilnadu and his 125th anniversary of his birth
declared as National Mathematics Day.
Death Mystery

Because of ill-health he breathed his last on 26th


April,1920.
At that time he was aged 32.
