Introduction
• In today’s growing world, traffic is increasing day by day,
and as a result, traffic congestion is the biggest problem.
e.g. Bangalore city traffic.

• Traffic congestion leads to lengthening of travel time (TT),

more fuel consumption and more pollution.

• Travel time is the key parameter for urban planning and Source: Times of India, July 8, 2023

traffic management.

• Travel time variability is studied by analysing the measure of

travel time reliability (TTR).

• Travel time reliability is the constancy or predictability of

travel time on a certain route.
3
Contn..

TTR Measures

• Average TT: It is the arithmetic mean of all observed TT.

• Travel Time Index (TTI): It is the ratio of Average (Avg.) TT in peak hours to Free-Flow
TT.

• Buffer Time Index (BTI): It is the difference between the 95th percentile TT and average TT,
divided by the average TT.

• Planning Time Index (PTI): It is the ratio of the 95th percentile to the free-flow TT and
shows the total time which is needed for on-time arrival in 95 percent of all trips.

Research Gap
After the literature review it is found that there is no analysis find on:

1. No data collection based on every 15 minutes interval for daily traffic is not collected
2. Section wise analysis on corridor based on interrupted and uninterrupted traffic.
3. No comparison between the existing road and the newly constructed flyover travel time within the same section.
4. No comparison between weekdays, weekend and public holidays.

9
Objectives

1. Visit actual site, study the Guwahati city road network (Arterial road), and
determine the elements that influence TT based on land use patterns.

2. Collection of TT data using google map Application Programming Interface (API).

3. Quantify TTR using measures such as TTI, BTI, PTI, 95th percentile TT, and
average TT.

4. Impact of different parameter such as time of day, type of day (weekdays, weekends
and holidays) on TT and identification of peak hours of selected road networks.

Data Analysis and Observation

• The data is getting collected of every 15 min interval in the excel sheet (online) through Google map API and
the format is as follows :

13
Data Analysis and Observation

 Then the data is segregated day wise, weekly and monthly for each route to average the data of
weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
 While averaging the data of weekdays the public holidays were not included in it.
 After segregation of data according to the requirement, combine graph of average weekdays,
average weekends and average public holidays graph is plotted for the observations. 14

(3rd Oct 2023 to 31st Oct 2023)

 The entire section is divided into 3 parts and 2nd part (zoo
road) is again divided into 2 parts.
 In which new flyover is also inaugurated few days back (18 th
oct).
 Public holidays considered are 23rd oct (mahavami) and 24th
oct (Dussehra).
 Also, same analysis is done for 1st section of 2nd part after and
before 18th Oct 2023.
 Separate data collection is going on for zoo road flyover for Fig of Route Chosen: Zoo road and GS road

• There is no update on zoo road flyover in

the google map.

• Still we have kept data collection ON.

• By assuming 50m less on start and end for

both forward and reversed movement.

• By observation it seen that TT is less for

separate, more clarity will get when data
will be more. Pic: Zoo road flyover section
