Introduction
• Checks and balances refer to a system in government where power is distributed and shared among different
governance.
Democracy
Democracy is a form of government in which the power to govern is derived from
the people. In a democratic system, citizens typically have the right to participate in
decision-making processes, either directly or through elected representatives.
The Indian Constitution is one of the lengthiest in the world, reflecting the
complexities of the governing a diverse and populous nation. It has been amended
several times to address emerging needs and challenges.

The Indian Legislature, also known as the Parliament of India, is
the supreme legislative body of the country.
• It is headed by the President of India, who is the ceremonial head of state, and
the Prime Minister, who is the head of government.
• The executive branch also includes the Council of Ministers, which consists of
ministers with specific portfolios.
Judiciary
• The Indian judiciary is an independent and impartial branch of the
government responsible for interpreting and upholding the laws of the
country.
Each branch serves as a check on the potential abuse of power by the others.
The judiciary can check the constitutionality of laws, the executive can veto
legislation, and the legislature can impeach officials.
Conclusion
Checks and balances are the key of a healthy democracy, ensuring that no
single branch of government becomes too powerful. The delicate interplay
between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches is essential for
safeguarding our liberties, fostering accountability, and upholding the
