We started off by discussing about the proper framework of the presentation. After having come to a consensus on the framework, we came up with the final draft of the presentation after a thorough brainstorming session.
Before liberalization, there were many incidents in which Infosys had to pay exorbitant amount (in the form of fines) to corrupt customs officials since they refused to pay bribe.
Infosys also had to pay way above the market rates for the land it acquired in Bangalore since it refused to grease the palms of government officials.
Murthy says, Being committed to values means a willingness to pay a price for them in the short term. Otherwise, there is no meaning in saying that you are values driven. Infosys founders have time and again stressed on their middle class values. 1989 was a watershed year. Infosys founders were inclined to wind up the company since the business environment had too many regulatory hurdles. But the vision and leadership of Murthy came to the rescue of Infosys.
Murthy says, I observed how in a western country even the socialists understood that wealth has to be created first before it can be distributed. You cannot distribute poverty. Wealth creation to Wealth distribution : The Infosys Way
