Eccentric Assembly Components

Typical MK-ll Design
Upper Counterweight
Retaining Ring  Counterweights are used
Upper to reduce the dynamic
Counterweight loads.
Eccentric
Assembly
Bushing & Key  Older crushers did not
have counterweights and
Eccentric
Eccentric Gear Key consequently had very
Lower high dynamic loads.
Counterweight Gear
 Older crushers used a
Assembly
Eccentric gasket instead of the “O”
Wearing Plate ring.
Eccentric (bronze)  The upper counterweight
Support retaining ring allows the
Plate O-Ring mainshaft to be pulled
out of a stuck eccentric.

Eccentric Bushing Inspection

 When the mainshaft is removed from
the crusher, a thorough inspection of
the eccentric bushing should be
completed.
 Bushing bore distortion is usually
caused by high heat or high crushing
pressures.
 High heat can cause inward distortion
of the bushing and burn marks.
 A damaged or excessively worn
eccentric bushing should be replaced.

Serviceability Inspection - Page 1 of 3
 Eccentric bushings have a load zone on
one side only, marked “A”.
 The inside diameter may become out of
round due to wear, but this out of
“A” roundness alone will not render the
2” to 3”
bushing unserviceable.
“Y”

 Bushings with cracks, burns, or heavy

scoring should be discarded.
“X”
 Measure the bushing inside diameter at
the centerline of the load zone, marked
“X” at 2” (50mm) to 3” (75mm)
intervals.
 Also measure any other area of
apparent damage or hot spots.

Eccentric Bushing Inspection

Serviceability Inspection - Page 2 of 3
 In general, all axial dimensions should
be within .001” (.025mm) of the
smallest dimension measured (due to oil
film thickness of .001”).
2” to 3”  Exception: if a scored location has a
“Y” dimension above the range shown above
on a bushing that otherwise appears
serviceable, measure on either side of
“X”
this location to determine the width and
depth of the area. The depth of the
scored area should be no more
than .005” (.1mm) below the adjacent
surfaces.
 Protrusions greater then the oil film
thickness causes problems.
