What is the importance of Yoga?
 The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and
soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful
body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing.
 It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It
improves respiration, energy and vitality. Practicing yoga might seem like just
stretching, but it can do much more for your body from the way you feel, look
and move.
 Yoga asanas build strength, flexibility and confidence. Regular practice of
yoga can help lose weight, relieve stress, improve immunity and maintain a
healthier lifestyle.
Why is international yoga day celebrated?
 The objective of celebrating International Yoga Day is to raise awareness
about the physical benefits of Yoga and also about physical health in general.
The theme for International Yoga Day 2021 is 'Yoga for well-being'. Yoga
assumed significance during the COVID-19 pandemic
 Yoga is one of the oldest traditions of India. In the last few years, it has become
popular internationally. This year, the world will be celebrating the seventh
International Yoga Day on June 21.
 Yoga Day is being observed since 2015. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra
Modi, in his UN address suggested the date 21 June as it’s the longest day of
the year in the northern hemisphere.
