MOVING LOADS
SAMPLE PROBLEMS:
A 75-kg exhibitionist rides a unicycle across a 4-meter simply supported wooden beam. If
the unicycle has a mass of 10 kg, determine the maximum moment and shear that occur
to the beam.
BENDING/FLEXURAL STRESS
A timber beam of rectangular section 8m is simply supported. The beam carries a UDL of 12KN/m
run over entire length and point load of 10KN at 3m from the left support. If the depth is two
times the width and the stress in the timber is not to exceed 10 N/mm 2.Find the suitable
dimensions of the section.
ASSIGNMENT:
A certain truck has a total weight of 3000 lb with its front and rear wheels 9
feet apart. If its front wheels carry 1200lb of its load, calculate the maximum
moment and shear that may occur when it crosses a 14-ft span. (Use the
general method)
