TUNING
IN
Mystery box
This is an adaptation of the '20 questions' game. It is a
great way to introduce a brand-new topic to students. The
teacher placed one object in the box (a screw driver)
without students seeing it. Show the box to students and
tell them that they must guess what is inside by asking
questions to which there can only be a 'yes' or 'no'
response.
FINDING OUT

The Internet
The students will find out some information from the
internet.
After their Research work, they put their understanding on
a booklet .
FINDING OUT

collage
The students understood about simple machines and
collected some pictures on simple machines and created a
collage.
Finding Out

Structured observation
This is a way for students to collect first-hand
information by going around the school and
finding out how simple machines
are used in their local environment-school.
Students went around different areas within the
school, and point out the simple machines.
Sorting Out

SIMPLE MACHINE PLATEs

The mentor gives a plate to each students. The student
creates a model of a simple machine and keeps
something as additional on the plate. Finally after
everything has been done they put on their plate on a
chart.
SORTING OUT

Fact finding
The student goes around their house, school, and a place where they
wish(such as park, hotel or supermarket). The student chose a product
which was found in the place where the she/he found it during their journey
of visiting places, and that product has at least 2 simple machines. The
child puts all their thoughts about the simple machine on a A4 size sheet.
GOING FURTHER

Individual projects
Students are given individual projects and are asked to investigate
in greater detail about simple machines. They investigate questions
or issues that have emerged so far and identify any aspects they
want to find out more about simple machines. Students then present
the history of simple machines - invention, evolution and changes
in the form of a project.
MAKING CONNECTIONS

Excursions
The students visited GO HAPPY supermarket. Visiting places away
from school can be a powerful form of shared experience. It gives
students an opportunity to gather more information. They also found
some simple machine in th supermarket
TAKING ACTION

From here to there

Students see the need for a simple machine in the hypermarket and
decide to make a model of it to present to the community. Students
brainstorm and draw ideas and then make a working model for their
own invention in the hypermarket.
