 WHAT ACTUALLY IS
CPEC ?
 Stands for China Pakistan Economic
-------Corridor.
 Initiated on 20th April 2015.
 Crucial part of Belt and Route Initiative
---(BRI) of China.
Aims for :-
- Securing Energy Import & Trade boost
-----for China.
- Infrastructure Development Pakistan.
 Major road and rail project from
------ Kashgar to Gwadar.
 DIVIDED INTO TWO
PHASES :-

The first phase of CPEC

was to remove key
economic bottlenecks
namely energy and
infrastructure.

The second phase

primarily revolves
around Special
Economic Zones
(SEZs)
development and
industrialisation.
 INTEREST OF BOTH
COUNTRIES
 Dual importance for China from CPEC :-
- Belt passes through POK, hence increasing influence of
-------China on Indian territory.
- Huge distance decreased for its export in the Middle East.
 For Pakistan availability of loans at high subsidised rate -----
---from China’s banks.

Fishing rights of the locals supressed:-

 CURRENT STAND OFF
 Its impact is as much low as high were its expectations.
 Not even a single special economic zone construction started.
 Most of the other development force under this project are in dorman
state.
 Balochistanis becoming more aggressive.
 Development of Gwadar port; not even 20% completed.
 Pakistan further increasing its debt from foreign countries.
Reasons for current condition of CPEC:-
- Lack of funding from China.
a) Political instability in Pakistan.
b) Constant threat on Chinese engineers and workers from

- High corruption in the administration of Pakistan
