DELHI The Union Territory of Delhi is a
narrow strip forming a part of the
Indo -Gangetic plain, lying between
North latitudes 28° 24' 17'' and 28°
53' 00" and East longitudes 76° 50'
24" and 77° 20' 37". It comprises an
area of about 1, 47,488 ha of which
1,03,328 ha are classified as rural and
44,160 ha as urban.
SIKKIM In the eastern Himalayas, Sikkim is a
lovely state located in the
unfathomable mountains and abrupt
valleys. Sikkim is placed between
latitudes of 27°5' N to 20°9' N and
longitudes of 87° 59' E to 88°56' E.
Positioned in north-east, Sikkim is the
second smallest state of India.Sikkim
covers an area of 7,096 km². Sikkim
enjoys a wide range of climate,
mapped, physiographic, geology and
vegetation that influence the formation
of different kinds of soils.
The soils of the Delhi area are mostly light with
subordinate amount of medium texture soils. The light
texture soils are represented by sandy, loamy, sand and sany
loam; whereas medium texture soils are represented by loam
silty loam.

Soil The Delhi ridge which is the northernmost extension of


Aravalli mountain consists of quartzite rocks and extends
from southern parts of the territory to western bank of
Yamuna for about 35 kilometers.

in The alluvial formations overlying the quartizitic bedrock


have different nature on either side of the ridge. The
Yamuna flood plain contain a distinct river deposit.

Delhi
The nearly closed Chattarpur alluvial basin covering an
areas of about 48 Km. It is occupied by alluvium derived
from the adjacent quartzite ridge.
