Limitation
• Actual field measurements of discharge by current meter are not possible so
hydrological study would be based on data provided by host company.
• Only hydrological study and hydraulic analysis will be carried out.
2. Weir
• Structure constructed across a river or stream to alter the flow characteristics of water, typically by slightly
raising the water level on one side.
• Control water flow and regulate the amount of water entering the intake structure or diversion channel.
3. Under sluice
• An opening located in the weir wall with its crest positioned at a lower level.
• Preserve a clear and defined river channel approaching the regulator
• Control the silt entry into the canal.

Hydraulic Components
4. Approach Canal
• Passage designed to convey water from the intake structure to the settling basin or head
pond in a hydraulically efficient manner.
5. Settling Basin
• Designed to remove suspended sediments from the water flow
• The main principle involved is to reduce the flow velocity of water which allows the
major amount of suspended particles to settle down.
6. Headrace Tunnel
• Water conveyance system that transports water from intake structure or diversion dam to surge shaft
location finally to the powerhouse where turbines are located.
• Designed to maintain a steady flow of water under pressure, ensuring efficient energy generation.
7. Surge Tank
• Structure provided at the end of headrace tunnel or pipe to account for water hammering effect in the
pipe at its downstream.
8. Powerhouse
• Provides facility for turbines, generators, and other associated electro-mechanical equipment to protect from
adverse weather
• Powerhouse is a crucial component of a hydropower system, converting the kinetic energy of flowing
water into electrical energy.
