Pollution Of Air And

Water
What Is Pollution ?

 Pollution is any undesirable change that takes place

in the environment which is harmful to both living
and non-living things.

 Pollutants are the harmful chemicals and substances

that cause pollution. For example, nitrogen oxides,
sulphur oxides, carbon monoxide, pesticides etc.
What Is Air Pollution ?
 Air pollution is the contamination of air due to the
presence of substances in the atmosphere that are
harmful to the health of humans and other living
beings, or cause damage to the climate or to
materials. There are many different types of air
pollutants, such as gases, particulates, and
biological molecules.
Causes Of Air Pollution

 Burning Of Fossil Fuels

 Agricultural Activities
 Exhausts From Factories And Industries
 Mining Operations
 Indoor Air Pollution
 Vehicle Emissions
 Fuel Oils
 Fumes From Chemical Production
 Natural Gas To Heat Homes
Effects Of Air Pollution

 Respiratory and Heart problems

 Global Warming
 Acid Rain
 Eutrophication Effect on Wildlife
 Depletion of Ozone layer
 Lung Cancer
 Respiratory Diseases
 Birth Defects
Prevention

 Drive Your Car Less

 Keep Your Car In Good Repair
 Turn Off Your Engine
 Don’t Burn Your Garbage
 Limit Backyards Fire In The City
 Plant And Care For Trees
 Switch To Electric Or Hand Powered
Lawn Equipment
 Use Less Energy
What Is Water Pollution ?

 Water pollution is the contamination of water

bodies, usually as a result of human activities, so
that it negatively affects its uses. Water bodies
include lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers, reservoirs
and groundwater. Water pollution results when
contaminants are introduced into these water
bodies
Causes Of Water Pollution

 Industrial waste
 Sewage and waste water
 Marine dumping
 Mining activities
 Accidental Oil leakage
 Maritime traffic
 Fuel spillages
 Deforestation
 Global warming
Effects Of Water Pollution

 Human Health
 Economic Cost
 Ecosystems
 Death of Animals
 Lack of Potable Water
 Infant Mortality
 Destruction of Biodiversity
 Diseases Like Cholera,Jaundice,Dysentry ,
etc.
Prevention

 Effluent Sewage Treatment

 Proper Incineration
 Reducing The Use Of Chemical
Fertilisers
 Reusing The Water , If Possible
 Reduce The Use Of
Pesticides,Herbicides ,Fertilizers
