 History of Operating Systems

by the English mathematician Charles
Babbage (1792–1871).

• Purely Mechanical, called “Analytical

Engine”

• Did not have an operating system but

Charles Babbage identified the need of
supporting Software.

• Hired Ada

• The programming language Ada is named

after her.
