Definition of Communication
The root of the word “communication” in Latin is
communicare, which means to share, or to make
common (Weekley, 1967). Communication is defined
as the process of understanding and sharing meaning
(Pearson & Nelson, 2000).

In the constructivist model (Figure 1.4

focus on the negotiated meaning, or common
ground, when trying to describe communication
(Pearce & Cronen, 1980),
Types of Communication
Verbal communication: Communication occurs through
verbal, verbal or written communication that conveys or
conveys a message to others is called oral communication.
