LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Describe the basic elements of a


business proposal.
• Discuss the main goals of a business
proposal .
• Identify effective strategies to use in a
business proposal.
A term of BUSINESS PROPOSAL is a written offer
from a seller to a prospective sponsor, Business
proposal are often a key step in a complex sales
process -i.e , whenever a buyer considers more
than price in a purchase.

A proposal puts the buyer's requirements in a


context that favors the seller's products and
services and educate the buyer about the
capabilities of the seller in satisfying their needs.
There are three distinct categories of
business proposal;

1. Formally solicited
2.Informally solicited
3.Unsolicited
FORMALLY SOLICITED PROPOSAL
• Requirements Matrix , which matches costumers
requirements with the pharagraph and page numbers of
where those requirements are addressed in proposal.
• Executive Summary , which outlines the primary benefits
of the vendor's solution to the customer's requirements .
• Technical Volume, which demonstrates how each
requirements will be met.
• Management Volume, which describes how the program
will be managed.
• Cost Volume, which provides all costing data, as well as
implementation plans and schedule .
INFORMALLY SOLICITED PROPOSAL
• Are typically the result of conversations held
between a vendor and prospective customer.
The customer is interested enough in a
product or service to ask for proposal.This
type of proposal is known as a sole-source
proposal. There are no formal requirements
to responds, but they choose good quality of
product .
The process of proposal management ;
• Proposal management is an inherently collaborative process. It
often consists of the following basic roles and responsibility .
CREATOR - responsible for creating and editing content.
EDITOR- responsible for tuning the content message and the
style of delivery, including translation and localization.
PUBLISHER - responsible for releasing the content for use.
ADMINISTRATOR - responsible for managing access permissions
to documents and files, usually accomplished by assigning
access rights to user group of roles.
CONSUMER OR VIEWER - the person who reads or otherwise
takes in a content after it is published or shared.
• Unsolicited proposals Proposals submitted to a
sponsor that has not issued a specific
solicitations but is believed by the investigator
have an interest in the subject.
• Pre-proposals These are requested by a sponsor
who want to minimize an applicant's effort in
preparing a full proposal. Pre-proposals are
usually in the form of a letter of intent or brief
abstract.After the pre-proposals is reviewed, the
sponsor notifies the investigator if a full proposal
is warranted.
• Continuation or non- commiting proposals
• These confirm the original proposal and funding
requirements of a multi-year project which the
sponsor has already provided funding for an initial
period (normally one year). Continued support
usually dependent on satisfactory work progress
and the availability of funds .
• Renewal or competing proposals
• Proposals which reques contineud support for an
existing project that is about to end. These requests
