Correlation

What is correlation?
What is correlation?
 The correlation is standardized and is no longer
dependent on the variables’ original measurement.
 The correlation coefficient ranges from −1 to 1, where −1
indicates a perfect negative relationship and 1 indicates
a perfect positive relationship.
 A correlation coefficient of 0 indicates that there is no
relationship.
What is correlation?

Cohen, J. (1988). Statistical power analysis for the behavioral sciences

(2nd ed.). Hillsdale, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates.
Example

7-5
The correlation matrix shows the correlation between each pairwise
combination of variables.
For example, the correlation between s1 (“ … with Oddjob Airways you will
arrive on time.”) and s2 (“ … the entire journey with Oddjob Airways will occur
as booked.”) is 0.739, which indicates a strong relationship according to Cohen
(1988).
As indicated by the two asterisks, the correlation is significant at a 1 % level.
