The two cars travel at different speeds and types of motion. Car A is moving
at a constant speed of 2 m/s. While car B moves with varying speed from 0
m/s, accelerates to 4 m/s and finally stops at 15 seconds. The movement of
the two cars can be shown in the following v-t graph. Analyze the second and
what distance will car A meet with car B when it stops?
ANSWER
Car B moves in a accelerated motion manner, Constant Linier Motion
and Accelerated motion slowed down at the 15th second to a stop.
Then the distance traveled B can be determined by calculating the
area below the graph
1
𝑆 1= ×5 × 4=10 𝑚
2
𝑆 2=5 × 4=20𝑚
1
𝑆 3= × 5 × 4=10 𝑚
2
𝑆 𝐵 =10+ 20+10=40 𝑚
The distance from car B to the stop is 40 m. Meanwhile, for car A
to be able to cover a distance of 40m is when:
𝑠 𝐴 40
𝑡 𝐴= = =20 𝑠
𝑠𝐵 2
Then car A will meet car B which has stopped at the 40 m position for
20 seconds

Reno bikes on a straight track. At first the bicycle is stationary and then
accelerates at a speed of 1 m/s2 for 5 seconds. Then Reno maintained
his speed for 7 seconds. After that Reno increased his bicycle speed
by giving a speed of 2 m/s2 for 3 seconds. When Reno reached that
speed, Reno immediately braked with a slowdown of 2 m/s2 until the
bicycle stopped. Graph the speed versus time of that Reno cycling trip!
ANSWER
The Reno trip can be described into 4 parts.
AB section:
Determine the velocity after accelerating by 1 m/s2. With 5 seconds.
𝑣 𝑡 =𝑣 𝑜 +𝑎.𝑡
𝑣 𝑡 =0+1.(5)
𝑣 𝑡 =5𝑚/𝑠
Graphics up to the 5th second
BC part:
Specifies the speed and duration. In the BC section
Graph up to 5 + 7 = 12
CD section:
Determine the initial velocity in B (5 m/s) then accelerate it with an
acceleration of 2 m/s2
𝑣 𝑡 =5+ 3.(3)
𝑣 𝑡 =14𝑚/𝑠
Time graph to 12 seconds + 3 = 15
DE section:
Determine the time required from a speed of 14 m/s to a stop of 0 m/s
with a deceleration of 2 m/s.
𝑣 𝑡 =𝑣 𝑜 −𝑎.𝑡 14
𝑡= =7 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑠
0=14− 2.𝑡 2
2𝑡=14 Time graph to 15th second + 7 = 22 second
So that a graph can be made as follows
