Z-TEST

WHAT IS Z-TEST?

• A z-test is a statistical test used to determine whether two population means are
different when the variances are known and the sample size is large.
• A z-test is a statistical test used to determine the significant difference between 2
means (n>30)
• A Z-test is a type of hypothesis test—a way for you to figure out if results from a
test are valid or repeatable.
• For example, if someone said they had found a new drug that cures cancer, you
would want to be sure it was probably true.
• Your sample size is greater than 30. Otherwise, use a t test.

Critical Value: 0.05/2=0.025; 0.500-0.025=0.475

Look for the critical value in the z-table. The intersection of the row
and column where the value lies is 1.96. So the critical
value is 1.96.

Since the computed value of z score 12.22 is greater than the

critical value 1.96 REJECT the null hypothesis.
