Dear Members of the Interactions in Literature, Culture and Society PhD Committee:

I wish to apply to undertake a PhD at your distinguished establishment, as advertised in the faculty’s
website. Please find attached all the instructed documents including my thesis and a selection of papers that
exhibits my multidisciplinary background. I view myself as fully qualified to be part of your program. The
multidisciplinary nature of the MA formation I underwent greatly honed my analytical skills and provided
me with a vast reservoir of knowledge on different academic areas. I am anticipating to converse with you
further on this in a personal interview. Thank you for your valuable time and consideration of my
application.
Sincerely,
Ali MAJIDI

Dear Mehdi,

My parents have finally given me their Ok to spend a couple of weeks with you next summer.
We’ll certainly have so much fun together, won’t we?

But, I’m a bit panicky about this visit. Morocco is a new world for me-with customs and beliefs
definitely different from the ones we’ve got here in Ireland.

I looked up a lot of information about Morocco on the net but I still have a couple of questions in
mind:
-Shall I stay in a hotel or will you put me up?
-What are the common ways of greeting people in your country?
-What about table manners? Do you use both hands when you’re eating?
-And clothes? Should I dress up or wear casual things?
I feel my dream to visit Morocco will come true at last. Till then, I count on you to tell me about
the things above. Mary and the person she is writing to are:
