Practices
This presentation will encompass the key
elements of Proper boarding / disembarking
practices ,
our aim is to facilitate a seamless and safe
transit
OFFSHORE PASSENGERS
Including but not limited to:
• Crew change personnel: These can include crew
members for rig or platform operations
• Maintenance and repair technicians :These can
include technicians for maintenance or repairs
• Surveyors and inspectors: surveyors and inspectors
for safety inspections or certification purposes
• Support staff providing essential services
Key elements for safe
Boarding / Disembarking

• Gangway
• PPE
• Communications
• 3 Points contact rule
Gangway
Make sure that the gangway is safely positioned and well
secured and illuminated prior embarkation
In addition a quick Visual inspection should
be done for :

- Handrails
Must be monitored and kept taut at all times
- Steps and platforms
must be kept clear of oil and debris and free from obstructions,
Personal Protective Equipment

- PFD

- Helmet

- Safety boots
Communications

- Means of communication shall be provided


between the supervising crew member and the
navigation bridge.

-Safe access to the vessel/barge must be assured


before any Offshore Passenger is allowed to board
or disembark the vessel and only upon receipt of
verbal instructions from the officer in charge of the
transfer operation.
3 Points contact

-It s important to maintain 3 pts contact once on the gangway to


reduce the chance of a slip or fall

-Ensure a good sense of balance

-Do not hold on to any bags or objects;

-Have both hands free so to be able to hold to a railing or


support yourself when about to loose balance
Crew Responsabilities
- STOP boarding/ Disembarking of any passenger if he is not
complying with boarding procedure.

 Maintain a proper communications with bridge officer.

 Assisst and monitor Passengers transiting the gangway.
