NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE

Definition:
Also known as a virgin drink. is defined in the as a beverage that
contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume.
NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:

This class of beverages is further divided into three categories:


i. Refreshing Drinks:
The Beverages that refreshes our body are called as Refreshing Beverages. These are further classified into 3 categories:
 Soft Drinks:
These are non-alcoholic beverages that are usually but not necessarily carbonated, normally containing a natural or artificial
sweetening agent, edible acids, natural or artificial flavors, and sometimes juice.
The term soft drink was originated to distinguish the flavored drinks from hard liquor, or distilled spirits.

 Fruit Juices
A fruit juice is 100% pure juice made from the flesh of fresh fruit or from whole fruit, depending on the type used. It is not
permitted to add sugars, sweeteners, preservatives, flavorings or colorings to fruit juice.

 Fruit Drinks:
A fruit drink must contain at least 5% fruit juice and usually has added sugars, sweeteners, preservatives, flavorings or colorings to
fruit juice.

ii. Stimulating drinks:


A beverage that raises the level of physiological or nervous activity in the body of any biological system. The
purpose of these drinks is to make stay awake or alert
They contain 75 or more milligrams of caffeine per 8 fluid ounces and generally includes a combination of other
supplements such as methylxanthines, B vitamins, herbal ingredients and other ingredients which are advertised
as being specifically designed to provide or improve energy.
Examples include: Coffee, cocoa, ginger tea, drinking chocolate.

iii. Nourishing drinks:


The Beverages that provides Nourishment to the body are called as Nourishing Beverages.
They are usually high in protein, energy, vitamins and minerals. They include ready-to-drink nutritional
supplements, as well as drinks that you can make at home. E.g. milk shake, mango smoothie, banana milk,
avocado juice, malted milk, lassi,etc.
