Chapter 6:Automated and

emerging technologies

LALIT CHOUDHARY 10 CAIE

What are robots?
A robot is a type of automated machine that can execute
specific tasks with little or no human intervention and with
speed and precision. The field of robotics, which deals with
robot design, engineering and operation, has advanced
remarkably in the last 50 years.
What can robots do better than human?
Essentially, there are as many different types of robots as
there are tasks for them to perform. Robots can perform
some tasks better than humans, but others are best left to
people and not machines.
The following are things robots do better than humans:
● Automate manual or repetitive activities in corporate or
industrial settings.
● Work in unpredictable or hazardous environments to spot
hazards like gas leaks.
● Process and deliver reports for enterprise security.
● Fill out pharmaceutical prescriptions and prep IVs.
● Deliver online orders, room service and even food
packets during emergencies.
Where are robots used?

● Agriculture

● Industry

● Domestic

● Entertainment
Agriculture

● Harvesting robots are designed to harvest crops such as fruits and

vegetables. They use sensors and cameras to detect when the
crops are ready to be picked, then use robotic arms or other tools
to carefully harvest them without damaging the produce.
Industry

● Typical applications of robots include welding, painting, assembly,

disassembly, pick and place for printed circuit boards, packaging
and labeling, palletizing, product inspection, and testing; all
accomplished with high endurance, speed, and precision .
Domestic

● Domestic robots are designed to perform tasks with a level of efficiency and
precision that can sometimes surpass human capability. Robotic vacuum
cleaners, for example, can cover every inch of a room, adapting their cleaning
modes to different types of flooring or levels of dirt.
Entertainment

● They can be used as performers themselves or to complement human

performers. For example, robots have been used in Cirque du Soleil shows to
perform acrobatic stunts that humans simply cannot do. They have also been
used in concerts to create stunning visual displays
