SPEAKING

Spring 2020-2021
The speaking exam consists of 1 part.
Each test taker discusses a familiar question (taken from
the textbook)
Students discuss contemporary problems / situations to
analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of their solutions.
They are expected to use functional language (giving
opinions/ stating facts/ pinpointing a problem/ adding
information/ discussing problems) learnt in units 7-9.
SPEAKING
Instructions:

 a) The speaking test will be conducted for two/three students at a time.


 b) The teacher will act as an interlocutor (who is involved in a conversation) as well
as an assessor who will also give marks to the students.
 Students (A) will be given 1 minute to prepare and 2 minutes to talk about the
topic. (1 min. preparation + 2 min. presentation + 1 min another student (B)
evaluation = 4 min.)
 The Interlocutor may ask any student A or B to begin first.
 After one student (A) has finished his or her presentation, another student (B)
should be asked to evaluate presentation.
 The same process should be repeated with the other student also.
You are given one minute to prepare and two minutes to speak on a given topic.

The criteria for marking Speaking Paper are
the following:
 Grammar and Vocabulary,
 Discourse Management,
 Pronunciation,
 Interactive Communication.
Each component takes maximum 4 points. Therefore, overall score is 16 which equals
to 4 points: 16/4. Accordingly, student’s raw score is divided by 4.
