Cadet Training & Modernisation – Consultation Group Progress
CT&M Consultation Group 1 - Education, Policy & Technical:

CT&M Sub-Group 1.2 - Modernisation of Curriculum and Examination:


• Industry review of modules within the cadet training programmes now complete
• Industry consultation reports published for TG1 to TG7, final Template Group (TG8) to be published before end of July 2023.
• New academic templates are being drafted for each module.
• Academic Template Review commenced in Sub-Group meetings on 18 July 2023
• The Deck/Engine/ETO Training Record Books (TRB) will be reviewed once Academic Modules finalised. Expected to start in November
2023 and finish in March 2024

• CT&M Sub-Group 1.3 - Career Pathways:


• Project commenced on 05 June 2023. Journey4 & MCA are currently running a survey to gather background data for the career map and
report. Journey4 will then meet with stakeholders to address any questions.
• Expected delivery of report and career map by 07 Sep 2023.

CT&M Consultation Group 2 – Funding:


• Currently on hold
• Case to be made DfT/MCA

CT&M Consultation Group 4 – Communications:


• Creative Brief for National Awareness Campaign has been proposed to Oversight Committee (OSC)
• Sign off required for paper from OSC
• Steer required from OSC regarding funding for the Campaign
• UK Chamber of Shipping to discuss and respond.
• Working on a Communications Plan for the end of the syllabus review

Cadet Training & Modernisation – MCA Update

Changes to the Notice of Eligibility (NOE) Process

• Reduction of wait times between oral exam resits


• Currently three months wait after a candidates third exam attempt
• Wait times to be reduced to one month

Update on the Split Oral Exam

• Pass rate of Part A currently 45% (46 Examinations)


• Pass rate of Part B currently 100%
