Sequence
A Sequence is a list of things
(usually numbers) that are in
order.
Number
Sequence
Number sequence is a progression, or an
ordered list of numbers governed by a
pattern or rule. Numbers in a sequence are
called terms. A sequence that continues
indefinitely without terminating is an infinite
sequence, whereas a sequence with an end
is known as a finite sequence.
Sequence
A sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set {1, 2, 3,…, n} or
the infinite set {1, 2, 3,… }.
This finite sequence is a summation of a sequence that has an end.
They don’t go on forever.
Example: 1,2,3,4,,5,6,7,8,9,10
A sequence is infinite if it’s domain is the set of positive integers
without a last term {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, …}. The three dots show that the
sequence goes on and on indefinitely.
Example: {1,2,3,4,5,...}
Arithmetic Sequence
An arithmetic sequence is a sequence where
every term after the first is obtained by adding a
constant called the common difference.
The sequence 1, 4, 7, 10, … and 15, 11, 7,
3, … are examples of arithmetic sequence since
each one has common difference of 3 and -4,
respectively.
Arithmetic Means
Finding a certain number of terms between the given terms of
an arithmetic sequence is a common task in studying
arithmetic sequence. The term between any two
nonconsecutive terms of an arithmetic sequence are known as
arithmetic means
Example: Insert 4 arithmetic means between 5 and 25.

An arithmetic series is the sum of the terms of an arithmetic


sequence.
Example: What is the sum of the first 50 counting numbers ?

Geometric Sequence
A geometric sequence is a sequence where each term after the first is
obtained by multiplying the preceding term by a nonzero constant called
the common ratio.
The sequence 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 is called a geometric sequence.
The common ratio, r, can be determined. By dividing any term in
the sequence by the term that precedes it. This, in the geometric
sequence 32, 16, 8, 2, . . ., The common ratio is ½ since 16/32 = ½.
Geometric Mean
Geometric mean is a term between any two term in geometric
sequence.
Example: Find the geometric mean between 2&8
Solution: GM= √ a•b
=√ 2•8
=√16
=4
Example: insert 3 geometric means between 5 and 3125.
Geometric series is the sum of our geometric sequence.
Geometric Sequence
Infinite series a sequence that has a last term
Example: What is the sum of the first five terms of (3,6,9,12,48,..,n)
Finite series no last term
Example: What is the sum of the first five terms of (3,6,9,12,48,..)
Special Sequence
A special sequence is a string numbers.
When a sequence has a unique pattern to
it, we call it a special sequence. It is a
sequence of number that follow a certain
pattern or rule.
